The Victoria ISD Board of Trustees approved temporary substitute pay rate increases at Stroman Middle School in an effort to provide regular and consistent substitute instructional support to the campus during Monday’s Special Called Board Meeting.
Effective Sept. 1, 2021, substitutes districtwide received a pay rate increase as part of the Victoria ISD 2021-22 Employee Compensation Plan. The VISD Board of Trustees was first presented with the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) staffing review at the December 17, 2020 board meeting. The compensation plan was presented and approved by the Board at the July 27, 2021 board meeting.
District administration asked the Board to consider the new recommendation during Monday’s Special Called Board Meeting.
Effective Jan. 4, 2022, through May 26, 2022, substitute pay rates at Stroman will be paid at 150% of the current established rate. These pay rate increases will be funded by ESSER II. The current and new pay rates are outlined below.
Substitute Pay Rates
Certified (Texas): Currently $104 per day, will be $156
Degreed: Currently $84 per day, will be $126
HS Diploma/GED/Non-degreed: Currently $78, will be $117
Long-term Substitute Pay Rates
Certified (Texas): Currently $ 110, will be $165
Degreed: Currently $90, will be $135
HS Diploma/GED/Non-degreed: Currently $84, will be $126
A long-term substitute works for an extended amount of time for a teacher on leave for various reasons (i.e. maternity, bereavement, extended sick leave). Long-term is considered after the 21st day in the same classroom.
Permanent or Floater Substitute Pay Rates
Certified: Currently $110, will be $165
Degreed: Currently $100, will be $150
HS diploma/GED/Non-degreed: Currently $94, will be $141
A permanent or floater substitute is hired to work daily at a designated campus(es).
Paraprofessional Substitute Pay Rates
Short term: Currently $66, will be $99
Long-term: Currently $71, will be $106.50
