State Assessment Information
STAAR Redesign
The STAAR redesign is a result of House Bill (HB) 3906 passed by the 86th Texas Legislature in 2019. The redesign of STAAR and the requirement for students to take the state summative test can stimulate many questions or concerns with parents. Resources including short videos in English and Spanish that we hope parents will find helpful prior to the spring test administration of STAAR that begins April 9, 2024 may be found here.
For answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ), please reference the TEA's STAAR Redesign FAQ.
The Assessment & Accountability Department receives questions about “opting out" of state testing. Please see the VISD's FAQ Opting Out of State Testing document for information on state testing and graduation requirements.

Question #5 — 2024 STAAR EOC Algebra
An investor deposited money into an investment account that earns interest compound annually. The function shown models the amount of money in the account in dollars after t years.
A(t) = 1,550(1.02)t
Which statement best interprets one value in the function?
A. The initial deposit in the investment account was $1,581.
B. The amount of money in the investment account increases 102% each year.
C. The initial deposit in the investment account was $1,550.
D. The amount of money in the investment account decreases 2% each year.
Answer to Question #5 — 2024 STAAR EOC Algebra
C. is the correct answer.
To determine the statement that best interprets one value in the function, the student should have recognized that A(t) is an exponential function of the form A(t) = abt, where a represents the initial value (starting value), b represents the common factor (constant rate by which successive values increase or decrease), and t is the variable (symbol used to represent an unknown number). In this situation, the variable t represents the number of years after the investor deposited the initial amount of money. In A(t) = 1,550(1.02)t, the student should have recognized that the initial deposit in the investment account was $1,550 since a = 1,550.
