The Victoria ISD Board of Trustees has approved Shanquil Fennell's selection as Director of Transportation.
Fennell has over a decade of transportation operations experience, most recently as the Transportation Program Manager for Golden Crescent Regional Planning Commission, where he assisted in policy, procedure, budgetary developments, implementation, and management. Additionally, Fennell developed and implemented strategic plans for transportation programs, including Victoria Transit, R-Transit, and Enhanced Mobility for Elderly and Individuals with Disabilities. He earned a certificate in Office Management and is currently completing an Associate Degree in Business Management from Victoria College.
“VISD is quite fortunate to acquire a transportation professional with the background of Shanquil Fennell,” said Dr. Stanton Lawrence, Assistant Superintendent of Administration. “With history as a VISD bus driver and bus driver trainer, he is simply returning home as the leader of the department. He will be a great fit for the position and will move the department forward by working with existing staff to carry out the mission of our school district.”
As Director of Transportation, Fennell will be responsible for administering the school bus transportation program and vehicle maintenance program and ensuring the safe and efficient transportation department's operation.
"I feel honored and excited to have been selected to serve as the next Director of Transportation for VISD," said Mr. Fennell. "I look forward to serving the students and their families while working with other talented staff who are committed to doing the same, and I know there are wonderful staff members in the Transportation Department that I'm eager to work with to take services to the next level."
Fennell is a member of the Texas Department of Transportation's Transit Vehicle Specification Development Committee. His first day in this role will be June 14.
