Victoria ISD strictly follows district hiring protocols, that include fingerprinting and conducting a criminal background check for every employee prior to hire. Within three days of employment, the district is required to subscribe to the FACT Clearinghouse, managed by the Texas Department of Public Safety, for each employee, where they remain subscribed for the duration of their employment. The FACT Clearinghouse provides school districts with electronic notifications when an employee’s criminal history record changes, generally within 1 to 2 business days, i.e. an arrest.
If an arrest is made, a DPS alert is issued to the school district following the arrest, allowing the district to take action.
These standard operating procedures are strictly enforced for all employee hires.
Per VISD Board Policy DBAA(Legal), every public school district in Texas is required to conduct business in this manner.
