The Titan Speech and Debate Team continues to make waves! In February, Victoria East High School’s talented debaters showcased their skills at the National Speech and Debate Association’s (NSDA) Gulf Coast District National Qualifying Tournament - a high-stakes competition that puts the region's best to the test.
To earn a spot at the 100th Anniversary National Speech & Debate Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa, students had to place in the top two of their event-an extraordinary challenge requiring skill, strategy, and perseverance.
We are thrilled to announce that three VEHS students have met this challenge and will proudly represent their school at the national tournament this June!
Meet our national qualifiers!
Kiley Powell - Lincoln Douglas Debate
Collin Flessner and Ayden Lunsford - Policy CX Debate
These achievements reflect not only the hard work and perseverance of our students but also their relentless commitment to excellence in the art of speech and debate. Their accomplishments serve as a testament to the countless hours they have dedicated to honing their craft.
“For these students, this is the ultimate achievement of their High School Debate Careers,” said Speech and Debate Coach Bryan Winn. “I am very proud of their hard work and dedication.”
In addition to qualifying for nationals, we are also proud to announce that Collin Flessner has reached Premier Distinction, the highest degree in the National Speech & Debate Association Honor Society! This remarkable achievement places Collin among an elite group, as fewer than 3% of NSDA members earn Premier Distinction prior to graduation. Collin’s exceptional dedication and the significant time he has invested in preparing, practicing, and competing have played a crucial role in his success.
Congratulations to these outstanding students! We can’t wait to see them take the national stage and showcase their talents among the best in the county. Titan Pride!
