VISD was honored to receive a Career & Technical Education (CTE) Summer Grant for an internship program for our Manufacturing career cluster.
The Welding Summer Internship Training Program is an opportunity where Victoria ISD will be partnering with TEJAS Production Services, a local business partner, to provide 11th and 12th-grade students summer internships using a project-based learning model to provide students with an advanced work-based learning experience aligned to a high-skilled, high-wage, high-demand occupation toward a career pathway to improve post-school outcomes.
"It is my pleasure to be able to teach today's youth the art of welding,” said TEJAS welding trainer Steven Nienhouse. “This is an opportunity for us both, one to teach it and the other to keep this trade going and give these kids a shot at a good career!”
Students will complete a high-quality occupation-related project aligned to the Practicum in Manufacturing course using a project-based learning experience identified by TEJAS and supported by a CTE educator. Participating students will receive mentoring from a TEJAS industry professional, including an opportunity to shadow and be coached throughout their internship.
VISD and TEJAS will provide an opportunity to map the key skills needed to succeed in those positions and foster a partnership for additional student work-based learning experiences that extend beyond the summer experience.
