Victoria ISD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) department began Industry-Based Certification (IBC) testing for the 2021-22 school year in October at Career and Technology Institute (CTI), Victoria East and Victoria West High School. Final testing for the fall semester was recently completed, with 158 students earning IBC’s.
Fall IBC testing included Entrepreneurship and Small Business, Microsoft Office Specialist Word, NCCER Core Level 1, Non-Commissioned Security Officer Level II, and OSHA 30 Carpentry.
59 students who participated in testing for certification in Entrepreneurship and Small Business passed. Entrepreneurship and Small Business is a certification from Certiport, sponsored by Intuit and the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, that ensures tomorrow's leaders are prepared with the toolkit they need to get ahead in today's competitive landscape. Whether you are starting a bakery or launching the next billion dollar startup, ESB validates a students' understanding of core business principles, including the essentials needed to launch and maintain a successful business. Entrepreneurship Small Business certification opportunities are offered in the following courses:

56 students who participated in testing for certification in Microsoft Office Specialist - Word passed. Successful candidates for the Word 2016 exam have a fundamental understanding of the Word environment and the ability to complete tasks independently. Candidates taking this exam will demonstrate the correct application of the principle features of Word 2016 by creating and editing 2-3 page documents for a variety of purposes and situations, documenting examples include professional-looking reports, multi-column newsletters, résumés, and business correspondence.

10 students who participated in testing for certification in National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Level 1 passed. NCCER Core is designed as a rigorous, competency-based, industry-recognized program for career and technical education. Students may complete the required elements sooner or later than the recommended 150 hours of knowledge and skills-based instruction, depending on their individual proficiency in mastering the content. NCCER Core is a prerequisite to all other Level 1 craft curriculum. Its modules cover topics such as Basic Safety, Communication Skills and Introduction to Construction Drawings.

26 students who participated in testing for certification in Non-Commissions Security Officer Level II passed. A student who completes the non-commissioned security officer level II certification could work on a variety of occupations, including security guard and personal security agent. Some of the work associated with this certification and its usual occupations includes preventing physical access to restricted areas, investigating illegal or suspicious activities, and responding to minor emergencies. The Level II Training Course and Exam is required of all non-commissioned security officers, commissioned security officers and personal protection officers.

Six students who participated in testing for certification in OSHA 30 Hour Construction passed.
The OSHA Outreach Training Program provides workers with basic and more advanced training about common safety and health hazards on the job. Students receive an OSHA 30-hour course completion card at the end of the training. Students can complete the 30-hour course online or through an OSHA authorized outreach trainer.

IBC testing will resume for the spring semester in January 2022. Students will have the opportunity to receive a variety of certifications depending on what career path they are interested in. Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), Certified Veterinarian Assistant Level 1, Automotive Service Excellence Certifications and American Welding Society Certifications are a few of many certifications students available for testing in the spring semester.
VISD's CTE programs collaborate with business, industry, and higher education to combine academics, workplace knowledge, and the skills that are essential to prepare the future workforce to succeed in an ever-changing global economy.
These programs offer students the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications, allowing for a seamless transition into the workforce upon graduation. These certifications and trainings can assist students to obtain a job that could pay for college or start a career straight out of high school. Many of the CTE courses offered are articulated with post-secondary institutions, so students are eligible to earn college credit at the same time as earning high school credit at no additional cost to students.
