Five Victoria East High School students, Ramon Oviedo, Josalin Bosquez, Isaiah Medrano, Madison McNary, and Brayden Hanson (not pictured), have been accepted into the NASA High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) program for their junior year.
On Friday, October 7, NASA High School Aerospace Scholars gave a presentation at Victoria East High School. HAS is a year-long commitment that offers Texas high school juniors an authentic STEM learning experience where they can engage with NASA missions.
“This is the only NASA program that is offered to high schoolers and it is a very big opportunity for our students,” said John Reilly, engineering, rocketry, and chemistry teacher at Victoria East High School.
The program began in the fall with a four-month online course where the students learn about space exploration, technology, Earth science, and aeronautics. The program will also have the students completing engineering projects throughout the year, after which they will be eligible for the NASA summer program. If accepted into the summer program, the students will have the opportunity to work alongside NASA engineers and other scientists on current NASA projects.
We are #VISDProud of these VEHS students!
