PTO/Booster Club Social Media Accounts
Historically, the district has not interacted with booster club/PTO social media pages due to their nature as parent-managed entities, distinct from district-managed accounts. Typically, booster club/PTO social media pages are dedicated to sharing parent-related information. We do ask that booster clubs/PTOs do reach out to the campus principal regarding the creation of new social media accounts as a courtesy.
It is important to note a few items:
District and campus staff should NOT be administrators on Booster Club/PTO social media accounts. When a district/campus staff member is an administrator, the account IS subject to Public Information Requests and will require Comms to have access to the account. For this reason, we ask that no district or campus staff be an admin to social media booster club/PTO social media accounts. There are social media archiving processes and FOIA request processes when district/campus staff are administrators on social media accounts including VISD Comms requiring access to the social media accounts.
If you decide to create a page for a PTO/booster club, we kindly request that you incorporate "Booster Club" into your page name (e.g., VWHS Powerlifting Booster Club). Additionally, either a pinned post or an "About" section should prominently display the following disclaimer: "This page is run by the VWHS Powerlifting Booster Club and is NOT an official Victoria ISD social media account."
We urge you to ensure that when the administrator of the group/page is no longer associated with the PTO/Booster Club, the page is either deactivated or administrative rights are transferred to another active parent.
It is important to reiterate that VISD Communications does not oversee PTO and/or Booster Club social media accounts.
We hope these guidelines help you establish a clear and compliant social media presence for the PTO/Booster Club within VISD. If you have any further questions or require additional assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.
