One of our very own VISD students, Chandler Elementary School 4th-grader Chev Bondoc, recently reached the #1 spot for Imagine Math points in the state.
Imagine Math is an application designed to aid students in Pre-K through 12th grade in learning essential math skills through fun, adaptive digital experiences. Students are also able to practice explaining their thinking and applying their learning both inside the classroom and in their day-to-day life.
“When I found out I was in 1st place, I was really excited, but at the same time, I was a little nervous,” said Bondoc. “I thought, ‘Now everyone will try to pass me!’”
Students earn points by completing a lesson and additional points can be earned if the student performed well in that lesson. Chev reached the top spot by earning 258,359 points, over 4,000 more points than 2nd place, and over 70,000 more points than 3rd place.
“To maintain my ranking, I had to make sure to work on Imagine Math both at school and at home,” said Bondoc, “but not too much!”
Imagine Math resets student points every few weeks, but his math teacher Cassandra Bednarczyk has no doubt he will soon enough make it back to first place once again. “For a while, he and the 2nd and 3rd place were battling for 1st place,” said Bednarczyk. “In the morning, he’d sometimes be down a place or two, but by the afternoon when Chev finished his Imagine Math lessons, he’d be in the top spot again.”
Way to go, Chev! Your hard work makes us #VISDProud!
